Buakaw Speaks Out: “I wanted to retire, Por.Pramuk Control Me”

Buakaw has finally spoken out about his problems with gym Por.Pramuk.

The K-1 MAX legend and Lumpinee International Fighter of the Year speaks out in this shock interview, in which he candidly reveals that he wanted to retire in 2009, but Por.Pramuk would not allow him to. He also mentions wanting to go out and enjoy himself more, and that he has had many problems within the gym regarding training and other issues, but that the gym “make problems for him”, and strongarm him into training more and backing down regardless of the issue at hand.

It was insinuated throughout the interview that Buakaw had been threatened. At the very least, that he has been forced into acquiescence by Por.Pramuk for years upon years, the gym in which he lives in a room with three other men.

Any questions asked about money, it should be noted that Buakaw quietly avoided answering, instead telling us that he’s suffered recurring injuries. It has long been known that Por.Pramuk have taken the lions share of all Buakaw’s fight purses; the strongest rumour being that when he won 10 million yen for the K-1 World MAX, that he only received 20,000 of it and that the rest went directly to Por.Pramuk who ‘bought four houses’, among other subsequent expenditures.

It should be noted that while Buakaw avoids responding to questions about money, he has never denied that his gym take the lions share of his earnings.

Here is the shock interview.

Buakaw! If you want to open your own gym somewhere, anywhere, we in the fighting community will find investors and help in anyway we can i’m sure. Salute to the greatest stand up fighter out there.

would it be possible to get subtitles or a transcribed version of this interview?

It’d be a shame for such a great fighter to retire but best to him if he decides to.

@Dylan – as I tried to imply very heavily in the article, Buakaw is essentially owned by Por.Pramuk gym. Many young Thai fighters are – literally – bought. He signed a lifelong contract as far as I know, and if he could have left before, he most certainly would have done.

It’s not as easy as “he should start his own gym”, or any of the comments on sherdog (where I’m still banned, despite breaking news stories). He cant. Hence him finally finding the courage to take off, and speak out in the media.

Some rich gym needs to buy him from the contract with Por.Pramuk. He cant just go off.

@Ryan – I got it translated by a Thai friend into this article. As for direct translation,, I cant speak Thai mate, sorry :)

He can leave whenever he chooses. He is a man now.

There is no such thing as Lumpini international fighter of the year.

He was given some award for being an ambassador on the international level. His in ring achievements had nothing to do with getting it.

    March 13, 2012 at 2:18 pm #

He was given a Lumpinee champion’s jacket for being “Most Outstanding Fighter on International Stage This Year”. I called him “Lumpinee’s International Fighter of the Year”.

Why do you try to correct everyone all the time?

Because a lot of the stuff you post is wrong.

Basically every post you’ve made on Muay Thai has bad information it. Hell, this page alone is filled with BS. A) no such thing as international fighter of the year for Lumpini. B) it was never insinuated that he was threatened in the video. C) You have no evidence to suggest he has a lifelong contract with Por Pramuk.

On top of that a bunch of hearsay.

If only we were all as informed as you, bro… banned for expressing the REAL FACTS on sherdog eh?

He won the Lumpinee award as I said it – I wrote “Lumpinee International Fighter of the Year” instead of “Lumpinee’s Champion Jacket Recipient for Best Fighter on the International Stage”.

        Fuck off, young boy.

Jump up and down on your computer, keyboard warrior. The comments here are only for those that have fought in the ring, jog along, little boy.

Daniel is right, fimeu90 has been found to be wrong by everyone involved in Muay Thai. Fimeu90 has never fought in the ring but gives advice to people that have, thinking he knows more about Muay Thai! The internet is a great tool but is abused by many fools that don’t have experience talking out of their ass about stuff they have no right to talk about…FOOLS LIKE FIMEU90!

Let me guess, FIMEU90 is a regular poster on sherdog or bullshido…probably both ;)!

    Dear Daniel Fletcher,

Your contribution(s) to the community are commendable, but like any authority figure, (news, rumors, or otherwise) you would be better served to shut the hell up (for lack of a better phrase) when you get called out. It absolutely does NOT matter if the person is trolling you, or you are legitimately wrong, or there is a simple communication mistake. It VASTLY undermines your credibility and what you are trying to accomplish when you bicker on the internet. Check, double check, triple check your facts, state the news (with references) and anything else that is your opinion, state it as so. Then.. leave it at that. Let your readers and forum posters argue it out in the comments and threads.

I personally believe that a major issue with sites and writers like this, is that the reader has a hard time distinguishing what you are proposing as fact, from what you feel is true based on your own opinion. Make sure that you make that distinction in every article and news post you make. It is totally fine to make conjectures about situations, as long as the reader knows that those conjectures are your own logical conclusions, and not a %100 undenaible fact. Likewise, make sure the reader knows that when you state a FACT, that is is such, and NOT your opinion. References are a wonderful tool.

I suggest a slightly more elevated approach to your online dealings.Let your writing and professionalism speak for itself. I wish you the best!

    Sincerely, Ty.

Ty, I agree with your very reasonable and well articulated points, and I will do my utmost to refrain henceforth from wishing untold misery and suffering on faceless, anonymous, basement dwelling trolls.

Hope you continue to read and enjoy the site!

      Peace, Love, Unity, Respect

i cant speak for fletch… but thanks for the feedback – i agree with you on alot of it.
Thanks for writing it in a polite way and not being a dick about it.
your right – sometimes passion/opinion blurs lines with facts.
In the end myself, will, fletch – we are all fan boys.
Fletch is a great writer IMO and will continue to learn and grow as a journalist.

I’m thai but my english is very poor. Just try to translate the interview to english.

Buakaw said, the problem has been collected for long time. Buakaw didn’t like the management right now. Now por.pramuk gym is running by son of the owner. This guy always spoke bad word to Buakaw, and this was the main reason that made Buakaw didn’t want to stay with Por.Pramuk gym anymore.

And another thing is the money, because Buakaw think he should earn more than this.

The main thing is : Buakaw hate the son of the gym owner. That’s it..
