ONE FC 9: Rise to Power- Favorites and Underdogs

OneFC: Rise to Power is slated to kick off on May 31st at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines and promises to be a stellar card with two titles on the line. Honorio Banario is looking to defend his featherweight title against Koji Oishi and Bibiano Fernandes will battle Koetsu Okazaki for the interim bantamweight title. Other matches include Kevin Belingon taking on Masakatsu Ueda in the bantamweight grand-prix final. Let’s take a quick look at the favorites of the matches on the upcoming card.

In the featherweight title fight, Honorio Banario takes his 8-1 record and his One FC featherweight title and puts them on the line against veteran fighter Koji Oishi. The 35-year-old Oishi has a career record of 23-9-10 and is making his One FC debut against the 23-year-old Banario. While Oishi has the advantage in regards to experience in this bout, odds makers don’t really expect Oishi to be able to be able to outlast the heavy favorite Banario who has finished all eight of his victories thus far and five of those by submission.

Bibiano Fernandes will take on Koetsu Okazaki for the ONE FC bantamweight interim title thanks to a shoulder injury to current champion Soo Chul Kim. Fernandes at 13-3 is the big favorite to win according to sports betting and poker site WilliamHill who just released the odds for this match. Fernandes is currently riding a five-match winning streak coming into this match-up and the 33-year-old underdog in Okazaki has not fought in a year after tapping out to Hiromasa Ogikubo in May 2012.

Masakatsu Ueda will take on Kevin Beligon in the bantamweight grand-prix final with the winner to get a shot at the bantamweight champion at some point in the future. At 17-2-2, Ueda is considered one of the best bantamweight fighters in Asia. With that said, Beligon has had a couple of impressive victories recently with a first round knockout of Yusup Saedulaev in October and a second round TKO victory against Thanh Vu just last month. The odds for this match slightly favors Ueda getting the win over Beligon; MMA and betting experts alike expect Ueda to be the one to challenge for the bantamweight title.

With three main event caliber fights, OneFC:Rise to Power promises to be a great night of fighting. In addition, there are four undercard bouts that include Phil Baroni taking on Nobutatsu Suzuki, Geje Eustaquio battling Andrew Leone, Rey Docyogen squaring off against Yasuhiro Urushitani, and Eduard Folayang taking on Kamal Shalorus.
