Tim Sylvia Returns to Asia on ONE FC: ‘Rise to Power’ Against Tony Johnson Jr.

According to Asian MMA website mmaorient.net, former UFC champion Tim Sylvia will be making his return to the ONE FC ring on May 31 in Manilla. While nothing official has yet been announced, Sylvia is expected to face former King of the Cage Heavyweight, Tony Johnson Jr.

Sylvia’s last appearance in Asia was at ONE FC 5 back in August, where he rematched Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski. Unfortunately, the fight ended in unusual fashion when Arlovski soccer kicked Sylvia without attaining prior approval from the referee- an act that earned Sylvia a disqualification victory and prompted a hailstorm of complaints from ONE FC’s confused fanbase.

Facing Sylvia is Tony Johnson Jr. With a 6-1 professional record, the fighter from Miami, Florida is coming off a set of wins, including a unanimous decision victory over Tony Lopez back with the King of the Cage promotion back in 2010. Johnson is a big strong heavyweight with a nasty right hand, and could be a tough test for Sylvia at this stage in his career.

OneFC: Rise to Power is slated to kick off on May 31st at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines and promises to be a stellar card with two titles on the line. Honorio Banario is looking to defend his featherweight title against Koji Oishi and Bibiano Fernandes will battle Koetsu Okazaki for the interim bantamweight title. Other matches include Kevin Belingon taking on Masakatsu Ueda in the bantamweight grand-prix final.
