SUPERKOMBAT NEW HEROES Vienna: Full Results

Two days ago we reported that Zabit Samedov put on a blistering performance at SUPERKOMBAT NEW HEROES in Vienna, unofficially titled “Azerbaijan vs. Europe.” We now have the full the results from the event, including who qualified for the next Superkombat World Grand Prix shows later this year.

First a recap: Zabit Samedov, who will be butting heads with Badr Hari yet again on May 25th in Russia, earned a brilliant High Kick KO victory over the much larger Wieslaw Kwasniewski in the first round of the SUPERKOMBAT main event. A natural 95 kilogram fighter, Samedov has found a home taking on larger men. As much as I enjoy seeing the hero from Azerbaijan record knockout after knockout against 120 kg+ heavyweights, I would still like to watch him explore the depths of 95 kilograms. Perhaps a match with Bogdan Stoica is on the horizon?

In the other superfight of the evening, heavyweight Muamer Tufekcic, fresh off victories over Corrie Robbins and Jairzinho Rozenstruik, won an exciting decision victory against the very tough Agalar Sadikhadze.

The fighters from Azerbaijan did quite well, winning 6 of 12 total fights, and cementing their country as a legitimate force in the kickboxing world. It is a testament to their skill that 2 of the 3 fighters selected for the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix events later this year, Agalar Sadikhadze and Parviz Abdullayev, were both representatives of Azerbaijan. Husnu Sari of Turkey also made the cut.

The next SUPERKOMBAT event is coming up on May 18 in Craiova, Romania, and will feature the likes of hometown hero Catalin Morosanu, Sebastian Ciobanu, Benjamin Adegbuyi. Frank Munoz, and more.
