Buakaw On Trial: Court Date Set For July 15

We’ve reported rumors on a variety of lawsuits involving Buakaw, MAX, and Thai Fight recently, but as of today we now have an official stamp on the matter. Yesterday in Thailand, Buakaw Banchamkek announced that Thai Fight was pressing charges against his person in the amount of 50 million baht (Roughly $1.5 million USD) in contract breaches for matches in Cambodia against Harlee Avison and Malik Watson on MAX Muay Thai in Surin.

The trial against Buakaw is scheduled for July 15 in the Ratchada Court.

Buakaw has been signed to an exclusive Thai Fight contract until 2014. He has broken this contract numerous times by fighting “exhibition” bouts in numerous locales in Cambodia, Surin, and most recently Koh Samui against Quentin Chong. Thai Fight has issued several warnings to Buakaw and his camp, but it appears they both took little notice. Buakaw was under the impression that participating in exhibitions exonerated him of responsibility to his original contract, but obviously Thai Fight believes that to be untrue.

Thai Fight also announced a 100 million baht suit against MAX Muay Thai for the use of copyrighted images. Thai Fight claims that MAX used Thai Fight photographs of Buakaw without permission, making minor alterations, and then selling the photos to various contributors.

How this will impact any future MAX cards is currently unknown. MAX’s second show in Jakarta, Indonesia is still scheduled to kick off on June 29.

hey fsa i would like to make this remark for those who are critisizing Buakaw about his lak of real fights how can someone with such problems involving his career and future be able to put a fight on high level competition so give him time to work this kind of problems out the way and be able to prepare to defend his name and title its just a vision of fairplay thats my humble opinion regards from Belgium
