Update: Rampage Jackson signs with Bellator

Yesterday, the world believed Rampage might be headed to the ONE FC. Just as the snowball effect was starting to take over,  it was officially announced that UFC champion and PRIDE veteran Quinton Jackson would be taking his talents to Bellator instead.

The announcement came on the heels of heavy rumors that Rampage might have signed with rival promotion ONE FC after CEO Victor Cui tweeted he would be looking forward to seeing Rampage sometime next month. The tweet has since been deleted,

It appears the rumors fluctuated out of control, and Bellator’s CEO and Chairman Bjorn Rebney responded with a press release detailing Jackson’s signing.

“Rampage is a true superstar both inside and outside the MMA cage,” Rebney said in a statement.

“The partnership that we’ve created with Quinton is unlike anything that’s ever been done in the sports & entertainment arena and Rampage is the perfect athlete/entertainer to carry it off.”

Jackson’s new contract features a clause similar to fellow light heavyweight “King Mo” Muhammed Lawal that will allow him to make his pro wrestling debut with TNA Impact Wrestling.

While Rampage certainly has a more impressive roster to face in the Bellator arena, I can’t help but wonder what could have been if he was put in a cage that allowed soccer kicks, knees to a grounded opponent, and an Asian fanbase that seems to care more about excitement than win/loss records. We may never know, but having the Rampage of old back in the ring will be good enough for me.
