Andy Souwer On Shootboxing vs. Pancrase Opponent: “I Feel Disrespected”

Andy Souwer has had one of the longest and most successful careers in the history of not one, but two different combat sports: Kickboxing and Shootboxing. The 4 time S-Cup World Champion and 2 time K-1 Champion has beaten nearly everyone there is to beat in both organizations, and yet he is still looking to push himself in challenging fights.

When the Dutch icon heard he would be competing in the first ever Shootboxing vs. Pancrase event on June 23, he was excited to be representing his home promotion. However, according to a recent interview, it seems that Souwer is frustrated with the quality of opponent that Pancrase has decided to put forward.

“In Holland, they are what we call B level fighters,” Souwer said, describing his match-up for the event- Kota Okazawa.

Okazawa has amassed a record of 11-8, fighting primarily in the Pancrase-esque Japanese promotion, ZST. Under the Pancrase banner, Okazawa has gone 3-3-2 in the lightweight division and was most recently TKO’d in brutal fashion against Hiroki Aoki, fought to a draw with 18-18 Hiroki Nagaoka, and was Knocked out with a high kick by Koji Nakamura.
