Jake Ellenberger vs. Tarec Saffiedine expected to Headline UFC Fight Night 34 in Singapore

A Welterweight clash between Jake Ellenberger (29-7) and former Strikeforce Champion Tarec Saffiedine (14-3) is in the works for the UFC’s first trip to Singapore.

The card is scheduled to take place January 4th, but as of now a venue has yet to be named.

Sources close to the situation confirmed the news with Fight Sport Asia earlier today.

Ellenberger is regarded as one of the best Welterweights on the planet, while Saffiedine is looking in from the outside having not fought in almost a year.

Jake will be looking to bounce back after his last outing to Rory MacDonald at UFC on FOX 8. Both men were involved in a lackluster fight, that left fans disappointed. After a fifteen minute stalling, Ellenberger went onto lose the contest via Unanimous Decison.

A win over the Canadian could have catapulted him into title contention against Welterweight King Georges St-Pierre. Before his last fight, Ellenberger was on a 2-fight win streak defeating both Nate Marquardt & Jay Hieron.

Now with a new challenge ahead, Jake looks to get back into the win column at the turn of next year when the UFC takes it’s first trip to Singapore.

Belgium-born fighter Tarec Saffiedine will finally be making his long awaited promotional debut, since crossing over from the now defunct Strikeforce.

Tarec was scheduled to face off with Robbie Lawler at UFC on FOX 8, but an injury would halt the 27-year-old from competing. Saffiedine is currently riding high at the moment, having won his last four fights.

In his last outing he stepped into the Strikeforce cage for one last time against Nate Marquardt, who was coming off a Mortal Kombat-esque type finish over Tyron Woodley. Saffiedine would be a sizable underdog in the fight, but in the end Tarec dominated his foe to a Unanimous Decision using vicious leg kicks and accurate striking. The Team Quest product would leave for the UFC as the last Strikeforce Welterweight Champion.

Overall the match-up will have fight fans foaming at the mouth at the possibility of sheer violence inside the cage. Both men are heavy hitters and can finish anyone on any given day, so don’t blink in this one.
