Tatsuya Kawajiri signs with the UFC

One of the most respected fighters in all of Asian MMA has landed stateside. That’s right, after a long an illustrious career “Crusher” is finally signed with the UFC.

T-Blood affiliate Tatsuya has faced a who’s who of MMA in the lighter weight classes including names like Kazuyuki Miyata, Josh Thomson, Shinya Aoki, Joachim Hansen, Kazunori Yokota, Caol Uno, and Eddie Alvarez to name a few.

Fan favorite Kawajiri (32-7-2) hasn’t fought since December of last year defeating Michihiro Omigawa at DREAM 18, prior to the fight he was on a 4-fight win streak.

Since turning pro back in 2000 Kawajiri has fought just once outside of Asia taken on Gilbert Melendez for his Lightweight title in the now defunct Strikeforce, Tatsuya would lose the fight by TKO in the very first round.

Since dropping to Featherweight Kawajiri has won all four of his fights, and finished three of them by Submission.

As of now it’s unclear why Tatsuya took the time off whether it was a contract issue, or that he needed a break from the sport.

With the UFC going to Singapore at the turn of next year in January, you have to imagine that the former Shooto Welterweight Champion will be part of their plans.
