ONE FC: Moment of Truth – Koji Oishi vs. Honorio Banario II

ONE FC have today announced a rematch between current Featherweight Champion Koji Oishi & Honorio Banario.

The match-up is set to take place in Manila, Philippines on December 6th.

Both fighters met earlier this year in ONE FC 9: Rise to Power’s Main Event for Banario’s Featherweight crown.

Former Lightweight King of Pancrase Koji Oishi (24-9-10) came out on top to claim the title, and looks to defend it for the first time against the man he took it from.

Oishi started his Mixed Martial Arts career all the way back in 2000, and since then has fought mostly under the Pancrase banner. Although the 36-year-old has strayed from the promotion from time to time, Pancrase is where he made a name for himself. Pancraseism affiliate Oishi comes into the bout with a 3-0-1 win streak.

His opponent Banario is a 24-year-old Filipino fighter with an 8-2 record. Honorio began his Mixed Martial Arts journey back in 2010 competing for the URCC organization. The Team Lakay Wushu native quickly made a name for himself racking up a 6-fight win streak, and in the process winning the promotions Lightweight title.

ONE FC took notice and brought Banario over. The fighter dubbed “The Rock” got a mixed reception in his promotional debut, as he lost by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) in just 56 seconds into the first round.

Since then Banario defeated Andrew Benibe by TKO setting him up to challenge for the vacant Featherweight title against Eric Kelly. Honorio would win the fight due to an eye injury Kelly sustained in the fourth round. His next fight would see him defend his title for the first time against Koji Oishi.

Recap: Honorio Banario vs. Koji Oishi

Banario would come in as the favorite, even though his opponent (Oishi) had 40+ fights under his belt and a wealth of experience.

Much of the first round was a feeling out process with neither landing anything significant, until Koji dropped Honorio with a straight right with under a minute to go in the round. The Filipino looked to be in trouble, but recovered well and got back to his feet. Both fighters opened up with strikes, but it was Oishi who was pushed back. Koji looked to have been rocked by a barrage of strikes thrown by Banario, eventually getting dropped in the dying seconds of the round.

The second round began much like the first with both men looking to size the other one up, and then out of nowhere Koji cracked Banario with the same punch he landed in the first dropping his opponent for a second time, then following it up with strikes knocking his foe out cold.

Also scheduled for the card:

– Eduard Folayang is a 28-year-old Filipino Mixed Martial Artist with a 12-4 record. The Team Lakay Wushu fighter has fallen on hard times lately going 2-3 in his last five outings. The current URCC Welterweight Champion will look to snap his 2-fight losing streak and get back on track.

– Geje Eustaquio trains with the aforementioned Folayang out of Team Lakay Wushu. The 22-year old Flyweight fell short to Andrew Leone earlier this year losing by Unanimous Decision. This will be his third bout with the promotion.

– Jujeath Nagaowa plans to make her Mixed Martial Arts debut. Nagaowa is a 26-year-old former women’s Boxing Champion from the Philippines.
