Phuket Top Team’s Gianni Subba finishes Chen Yun Ting, improves to 3-0

If there’s ever a doubt about Gianni Subba’s (3-0) credentials in ONE FC’s 125-lbs division, you might want to brush it aside. This kid is for real.

The Malaysian fought in front of his home crowd at Friday’s ONE FC 12: Warrior Spirit main card, locking horns with former training partner, Chen Yun Ting.

But there was no love lost between the two starlets as the action intensified from the get-go. Ting was finding success with some of his kicks, while Subba was utilizing his punches in the opening stages. The pivotal moment of the fight came when Subba scored a takedown on Ting, to which the latter executed an Armbar attempt that was shrugged off by Subba. Now in his opponent’s half guard, Subba relished the chance of capitalizing on some ground-and-pound, which wasn’t ordinary at that.

It was brutal. Subba delivered consecutive devastating elbows which drew blood from Ting’s face. The fight was quickly halted by the referee who made a prompt intervention. Ting remained slightly dazed following the stoppage and needed some time to recover.

At just a tender age of 20, the sky is certainly the limit for Subba, who continues to get better each time he steps into the ONE FC cage. The training at Phuket Top Team has done him a world of good, as he continues to improve under the guidance and help of some of the best fighters and coaches within the region.
