FFC 9 Results: Phuket Top Team’s James McSweeney victorious in 35s

Croatia-based Final Fight Championship held its first ever event on foreign soil this past Friday night, in front of a capacity crowd at Ljubljana, Slovenia. Following eight stellar events in its home base, the promotion finally decided to expand beyond its borders for its ninth installment.

The FFC 9 fight card was divided into two portions featuring Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts contests.

The MMA card was headlined by a Heavyweight tussle between former UFC fighter James McSweeney (12-11) and Austria’s Stefan Traunmuller (8-3-1). McSweeney needed just 35s to dispatch his opponent, submitting him via an Armbar.

The 33-year-old London, England native has now gone 3-2 in his past five outings, and holds notable bouts with the likes of Travis Browne and Fabio Maldonado among others on his resume. He’s one of Phuket Top Team’s most experienced vets.

There were five fights on the pro MMA line-up and four of them drew finishes. Ivica Trušček (24-19) also took to the limelight with his astounding 18s head kick knockout over Leonardo Zecchi (7-6-1).

In the Kickboxing match-ups, former two time “It’s Showtime 70 MAX” world champion Chris Ngimbi fell short to Mirko Vorkapic, while former WBC Muay Thai world champ Ivan Stanić garnered another impressive victory by stopping Strahinja Ivanović via a low kick in the second frame.
