Injury forces JJ Van Aswegen out of BRACE 24 contest against Jeshua McPhail

JJ Van Aswegen (2-0) will have to sit on the sidelines for the next three months or so before he makes his third appearance under the BRACE banner.

A concussion suffered during training has forced Aswegen out of his Featherweight tilt against fellow prospect Jeshua McPhail (1-0) in the month’s end BRACE 24 fight card. Aswegan took to Facebook early Friday afternoon, expressing his disappointment at pulling out of the fight.

So for anyone that doesn’t know yet, I have sustained a concussion during training which means I can’t fight for the next 3 months. Regrettably I’ve had to pull out of my fight in Canberra, hopefully Brace can find my opponent another fighter, I apologise for the inconvenience. I know how annoying it is when someone pulls out on you so close to the fight. Lesson learnt and training will be different from now on. Massive positives will come from this, you will see a totally different fighter in 3 months. Thank you to everyone at Beston Gracie that has helped me this year, it’s been awesome!

Aswegen has made a promising start to his pro MMA career by racking up two consecutive stoppage victories. The Aussie made his debut in September of this calendar year, and has fought twice in two months.

McPhail may still get a chance to feature at the end of the month should BRACE find an opponent for him in about a weeks’ notice.

Headlined by a Featherweight championship match-up between Luke Standing and Martin Nguyen, BRACE 24 takes place on November 29 at the AIS Arena in Australia’s capital city of Canberra. Fans can catch all the action LIVE on an online PPV for a price of AUD $14.99 at http://www.epicentre.tv.

With that, here’s the updated fight card:

  • Featherweight – Luke Standing vs. Martin Nguyen (For BRACE Featherweight Championship title)
  • Lightweight – Kevin Manderson vs. Jacob Pettett
  • Welterweight – Dimitar Dimitrovski vs. Craig Bath
  • Lightweight – Amarbir Singh vs. Matthew Darke
  • Featherweight – Peter Cross vs. Darwin Sugarit
  • Featherweight – Bao Ho vs. Steve McKinnon
  • Middleweight – Tahla Taslak vs. Kit Campbell
