Reminder: GLORY 13 goes down in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday

The premier promotion in kickboxing today returns this weekend for its thirteenth installment, once again presenting a staggering fight card for striking fanatics worldwide.

GLORY 13 takes place December 21st at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan. The event airs on tape delay on SPIKE TV beginning 9:00 p.m. ET, 6:00 p.m. PT.

Headlining the fight card will be all-time kickboxing great Peter Aerts’ in a retirement bout – opposite GLORY 11’s Heavyweight tourney winner, Rico Verhoeven. Also on the card is another Heavyweight fracas, between former “It’s Showtime” World Heavyweight champ Daniel Ghita and Suriname’s GLORY vet, Errol Zimmerman. Expect fisticuffs to fly in that one.

Finally, GLORY’s symbolic 4-man tournament will be on hand, where a quadruple of fighters will vie for the opportunity to contest for the promotion’s Welterweight crown. Tourney favorite Nieky Holzken will lock horns with Karapet Karapetyan, with Joseph Valtellini vs. Raymond Daniels makes up the second bracket.

But wait. It actually gets better.

GLORY Superfight series will commence prior to the GLORY 13 card and it features a line-up that’s probably more stacked.

GLORY Superfight Series fights are single matches and the means by which fighters accrue the ranking points which they need to climb their division and qualify for GLORY tournaments which offer the biggest prize money in the sport.

Legends Remy Bonjasky and Jerome Le Banner will be in action, along with Artur Kyshenko, GLORY 8  Tournament champ Yuta Kubo, Hesdy Gerges, Ewerton Teixeira and Mixed Martial Arts’ Strikeforce vet Sergei Kharitanov among others. Since these bouts won’t be available in the United States until a few weeks after, fans catch all the action LIVE online here, commencing 2:30 a.m. ET, 11:30 p.m. PT.

There were some remarkable upsets in previous GLORY events, most notably Andy Ristie’s highlight reel knockout of kickboxing extraordinaire, Giorgio Petrosyan. Will there be more of the same on Saturday? Well, we’ll just have to tune in and find out.

It’s a solid line-up overall exhibited by GLORY and as we’ve seen so often in the past, the fights hardly, if ever, disappoint.
