Singapore Grappling Championship launches inaugural event on Saturday

Despite the grappling circuit being dubbed as ‘feeble’ here in Asia, countries like Hong Kong and the Philippines have consistently hosted numerous grappling tournaments over the past years or so.

And now, competitors can rejoice with the start of Singapore Grappling Championship, a recently launched promotion that’s set for its first event on Saturday, February 8th, at City Square Mall.

In co-operation with the Singapore Wrestling Federation, Bear Productions, Knockout Gear, City Square, Shock Doctor, TCM Chang and Grips Athletics, SGC’s inaugural showcase is set to welcome over 120 competitors from the domestic circles and abroad, with both Gi and No-Gi contests in place.

SGC will also be working closely with local gyms such as Evolve MMA, Impact MMA and Kreation among others, with regards to appointing referees and ensuring fighters’ safety.

The event takes place over two days, with exhibition wrestling match-ups included in the running order as well. The BJJ match-ups, meanwhile, will consist of the <58kg, <64kg, <70kg, <88kg and absolute divisions, spanning across the White, Blue and Purple Belt categories.

So it looks like Mixed Martial Arts won’t be the only combat sport talked about in the coming months. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling may positively peak the interests of the casual fan as well.

Fonseka Giaspori, owner and promoter of SGC, has no doubts that this event will certainly improve the popularity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as create more awareness about the sport among the local community.

“We want people to know what BJJ is all about. Once people get to watch a grappling tournament in person, then we’ll start to see more of them putting on a gi and learning grappling as a form of martial arts defense,” Giaspori explained. “Now we are creating visibility for grappling in Singapore, and allowing the local talent to test their skills too.”

Prizes for the winners will include a certificate for participation, vouchers and gears.

Giaspori hopes to run at least three more of such grappling events before the turn of the calendar year. And he wants to include the possibility of having super-fights between elite Black belts as well.

I believe everything said made a bunch of sense.
However, think on this, suppose you composed a catchier post title?
I ain’t szying your information isn’t solid, but suppose you added something to possibly
grab a person’s attention? I mean Singapore Grappling
Championshjip launches inaugural vent onn Saturday | FSA – FightSport Asia is kinda vanilla.
You migght look at Yahoo’s front page and watch how they create post titles to
get people to open the links. You might add a video oor a related pic or two to get readers interested about what you’ve got to say.
In my opinion, iit might bring your posts a littpe livelier.
