Kyoji Horiguchi returns, faces Darrell Montague at UFC Fight Night in Cincinnati

With the UFC announcing bouts for their upcoming event in Cincinnati later this year. Mixed Martial Art juggernaut have now booked a Flyweight match-up between Shooto standout Kyoji Horiguchi and top ten fighter Darrell Montague.

UFC officials today confirmed the bout via Twitter.

The event is scheduled to take place in Cincinnati’s U.S Bank Arena on May 10th.

Kyoji Horiguchi (12-1), a former Shooto Champion made his promotional debut with the UFC late last year, where he exploded on to the scene defeating Bantamweight Dustin Pague at one of the best cards of 2013 — UFC 166 in Houston, Texas.

The 23-year-old Krazy Bee prodigy was always undersized in the Bantamweight division, but that never stopped him from dominating opponents. Now at 5’5″ the Japanese superstar will make his 125-lb debut where he belongs.

Horiguchi was scheduled to showcase his skills earlier this month against Chris Cariaso at UFC 169 in New Jersey, but due to injury, Kyoji was pulled from the card and replaced by Danny Martinez. With title hopes on the agenda, Horiguchi steps back into the cage and begin a new chapter in his career.

Darrell Montague (13-3) returns to action following a knockout loss against former number one contender John Dodson on his debut last October.

The 26-year-old aims to erase that defeat and focus on the task ahead, Kyoji Horiguchi. Before signing with the UFC, Montague was regarded as one of the best fighters on the planet in the Flyweight division. And is ranked as a top ten fighter in the UFC’s rankings.

Having made his mark on the regional MMA scene fighting for the respected Tachi Palace Fights (TPF). Montague went on to become their Flyweight Champion. However, after winning the title his Championship days were numbered as he lost his first defense to now UFC veteran Ian McCall.

A fan favorite, Montague looks to get back on track and rally up enough wins in order to challenge for the Flyweight crown.

Prior to signing with the UFC both men fought on the same card in Japan at VTJ 1st, where Kyoji Horiguchi went on to win a Unanimous Decision over UFC and WEC veteran Ian Loveland, while Darrell Montague won a Split Decision over one of the divisions pioneers Mamoru Yamaguchi.
