Daniel Sarafian vs. Kiichi Kunimoto set for UFC 174 in Vancouver

UFC 174 now has it’s first official bout for the promotions return trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada later this year at the Rogers Arena.

Welterweights collide, as TUF: Brazil alumni Daniel Sarafian drops down to 170-lbs, where he will face former HEAT Welterweight Champion Kiichi Kunimoto.

News of the match-up was reported by UFC officials on Tuesday night.

Kiichi “Strasser” Kunimoto (16-5-2-1) who fought his entire career in his native Japan, made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 34 in Singapore earlier this year.

The 32-year-old went on to win the bout inside the famed Octagon via Disqualification, after his opponent (Luiz Dutra Jr.) landed shots to the back of the head. With that win, Kiichi has now won five straight. And hasn’t tasted defeat since 2012, after losing to now UFC fighter and former Welterweight King of Pancrase Takenori Sato.

Having never fought outside of Asia, the Cobra Kai Dojo product will now be making his way across the pond to Canada, where he looks to continue winning ways when he faces off against another Brazilian foe.

Daniel Sarafian (8-4) a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil (TUF) made it all the way to the final, before sustaining an injury that forced Sarafian out of the finale in 2012.

With his first bout of 2014 now set. Daniel looks to rebound from his last outing, losing the contest via Split Decision at UFC Fight Night 32 against fellow countrymen Cezar Ferreira — Sarafian’s original opponent for the TUF: Brazil finale.

Since stepping into the Octagon, Sarafian has gone 1-1 thus far under the bright lights of the UFC. Having competed in the Middleweight division throughout his career, the 31-year-old will now be dropping down Welterweight, where his first hurdle will begin with Japan’s Kiichi Kunimoto.
