ROAD FC – Korea 003 Results/Pictures: Brazil tops South Korea 2-1

This past weekend, ROAD FC’s third installment in the ‘ROAD FC – Korea’ series showcased three premier “South Korea vs. Brazil” match-ups on the main card.  A thrilling night of competitive fights took place in front of a sold-out audience at the Grand Ballroom of The-K Hotel in Seoul, that saw Brazil go 2-1 against their hometown South Korea counterparts.

In the main event, A Sol Kwon entered his fight against Giovanni Diniz with a heavy penalty disadvantage, after coming in 3-lbs over the weight limit just the day before. A stipulation of two points to be deducted each round was implemented, which effectively meant Kwon could only win by finishing the fight. And that he did, in spectacular fashion. Both fighters came out slow in the first round and were cautioned for it, but in the second and third rounds, Kwon dominated Diniz with punches and ground-and-pound. Kwon ended the fight with a slick Rear-Naked Choke submission at the 2:47 mark of Round 3.

Fireworks sparked in the match-up between Thiago Silva and Moon Jae-Hoon. Silva mounted Moon’s back early in the first round, and the latter was forced to work hard to defend any attempts of a choke while eating punches from behind. In the second round, Moon targeted Silva’s left leg with a series of kicks, and decisively secured the round in his favor when he pounded his Brazilian foe with strikes towards the end. In the final round, however, Silva shot for a takedown and applied a successful Arm-Triangle Choke, and garnered what was considered a remarkable comeback win.

In the first featured “Brazil vs. South Korea” match-up, Bruno Miranda took on Kim Won-Gi. After the initial striking exchanges in the first frame, Miranda went for a standing Guillotine choke but couldn’t pull it off. Kim took the fight down for some effective ground-and-pound, but couldn’t finish the fight either. The barrage of punches cost him, however, as Kim looked tired and fatigued heading into round two. Miranda, always the opportunist, took full advantage of that by fiercely pounding out his opponent for a prompt referee intervention.

The women took some of the limelight off the men on the night as well, as Ham Seo-Hee imposed a takedown and control game against her opponent, Shino VanHoose. Ham showed why she was one of the top female fighters in the world, as she outpointed VanHoose flamboyantly with her crisp striking, along with some good pressure and positions on the canvas. VanHoose, who’s still only at a tender age of 18, defended well off her back and made some surprising submission attempts, and did indeed conjure up some shining moments of her own. But it was Ham who was clearly the better fighter on the night and deservedly scooped the judges’ scorecards for a victory.

The opening match-up on the main card showcased an interesting tussle between Ko Yong-Seok and Tsujikawa Ryohei. The fight began with some ferocious striking exchanges which led to a clinching game against the cage. Tsujikawa then forced Ko to the ground where he imposed his will with multiple submission attempts and strikes. Tsujikawa eventually called a halt to the fight via an Armbar with just seconds left on the clock.
