Caol Uno returns for Shooto’s 25th Anniversary, faces Taiki Tsuchiya in May

Lightweights (143-lbs) collide at Shooto’s historic 25th Anniversary, as former Welterweight Champion Caol Uno takes on the aggressive and always fun Taiki Tsuchiya next month.

Shooto announced the match-up on their official website.

The event is scheduled to take place May 5th at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. And will serve as MMA legend Rumina Sato’s retirement ceremony.

Caol Uno (30-16-5) remains to this day a fan favorite. Having been involved in the sport for nearly twenty glorious years, Uno has competed under the UFC, DREAM, K-1: Heroes, VTJ and Shooto banners throughout his long and illustrious career.

The Mixed Martial Arts veteran at 38-years of age has never looked better. Since making the drop back down to 143-lbs, Uno has went on to an impressive four-fight win streak, including three of those coming by way of Submission.

One of Asia’s pioneers was last seen defeating Jesse Brock earlier this year at Vale Tudo Japan – VTJ 4th. And hasn’t tasted defeat since 2012, when he was outpointed by fellow countrymen Shintaro Ishiwatari. Now, Caol Uno looks to extend his recent surge of wins when he takes on a game opponent in Taiki Tsuchiya.

Taiki Tsuchiya (10-4), a Rumina Sato protege has competed his entire career under one banner and one banner only, Shooto. Tsuchiya, 29, may not be a household name, but that hasn’t stopped Taiki from putting on exciting bouts for the last six years.

Roots affiliate Tsuchiya returned to Mixed Martial Arts in 2013, following a two year hiatus. And since returning under the famed ropes of Shooto, the 29-year-old has went 1-1 thus far.

Tsuchiya’s last bout came against Ryogo Takahashi at Shooto: 2nd Round 2013, losing the contest to an unfortunate arm injury that would halt the contest. With his first bout of 2014 set, the aggressive striker aims to get back on track with a huge win over Caol Uno.
