Manny Pacquiao avenges controversial loss, outpoints Timothy Bradley to win WBO Welterweight gold

Following two years on from their highly controversial bout. Manny Pacquiao, once again met Timothy Bradley for a second time at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2) and Timothy Bradley (31-1) headlined HBO’s pay-per-view this weekend, in a much anticipated rematch. And after twelve hard-fought rounds, we had a decisive winner.

Back in June of 2012, most who knew anything about the world of Boxing had Manny Pacquiao up on the scorecards by a considerable margin. However, two (C.J. Ross & Duane Ford) of the three judges didn’t see it that way and awarded Timothy Bradley the win via Split Decision, to hand Pacquiao his first loss of his professional career in seven years.

Las Vegas again hosted the duel between the two men this past Saturday, where Timothy Bradley looked to make a statement, erasing any doubt on anyone’s mind from two years ago.

The rematch played out a little differently this time round, as both competitors came out swinging from the opening rounds wasting little time, going blow-for-blow, with the crowd chanting “MANNY!” “MANNY!” “MANNY!” “MANNY!” from the outset, to a deafening MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Pacquiao and Bradley both had there moments in front of the packed house, but more so the Filipino superstar, who in typical fashion dictated the tempo throughout the most part of the fight.

As the fight wore on, Pacquiao, 35, seemed to be edging the exchanges, landing good shots on his counterpart. But just like most rounds, Bradley found success and was always in the contest, pushing forward trying to close the gap and cut the Philippine native off.

Unfortunately, Bradley began to slow down in the second half of the bout. And that’s when Pac-Man started to take over. Bradley began moving backwards trying to bait Manny into a fight against the ropes, urging the fan favorite on. But it was clear that “Desert Storm” Bradley was running out of ideas with his offense.

Although not a vintage Pacquiao performance, his lateral movement and combinations would see off his opponent, causing Bradley to get desperate at points in the fight winging wild, wild haymakers at his foe in the latter stages of the bout.

When it was all said and done, Manny Pacquiao out-boxed and out-punched Timothy Bradley to a thrilling Unanimous Decision win, to reclaim WBO Welterweight gold for a second time in his career.

Official results of the evening:

Manny Pacquiao def. Timothy Bradley by Unanimous Decision (116-112, 116-112, 118-110)
Raymundo Beltran def. Arash Usmanee by Unanimous Decision (118-110, 117-111, 117-111)
Jessie Vargas def. Khabib Allakhverdiev by Unanimous Decision (115-113, 115-113, 117-111)
