K-1 World MAX Final 2014 to be held in Thailand this July, Buakaw vs. Kehl set

The K-1 World MAX Final 2014 is set to take place in Thailand later this year in July.

Officials confirmed the news yesterday on the K-1 website, although no announcement was made on a specific date.

Taking part in the finals will be two-time K-1 World MAX Champion Buakaw Banchamek and Enriko Kehl. The two are set to contest in a rematch after their first encounter in December last year. Buakaw, of course, walked away with a decision win on that occasion, and is in fact, unbeaten in his last 27 outings.

The semi-finals of the K-1 World MAX tournament took place in Azerbaijan in February, with Buakaw defeating gritty South Korean hitter Lee Sung-Hyun to book his ticket in the finals. Enriko Kehl, meanwhile, had a scrap to remember against Shane Campbell on the other side of the bracket.

Buakaw, who’s synonymous with Muay Thai and Kickboxing worldwide, fought earlier this week in a promotion he started, called Combat Banchamek, against Victor Nagbe.

While the 31-year-old is actually scheduled to face Djimé Coulibaly for the WMC World Welterweight title at the Monte Carlo Fighting Masters 2014 in June, presumably, his bout with Kehl will take place as planned if he doesn’t pick up a serious injury.

K-1 is known across the world for producing exciting events and rational tournaments featuring some of the top stand-up fighters in the globe. So as we await for more information on this event, we can assume there will be a stacked line-up for fight fans.

We could also be in store for some repeats of legendary K-1 matches.
