It’s Muay Thai vs. Shaolin Kung Fu in the main event of Yokkao 9

A match-up between two revolutionary martial artists is set to go down at Yokkao 9 later this month.

Officials recently announced that Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee is set to face off against the ‘Shaolin Monk’, Yi Long, in the main event of Yokkao’s ninth installment.

Yokkao 9 takes place May 24 at the Henan Province in Xinyang City. Only three bouts on the line-up will be contested in Full Muay Thai Rules, with the rest taking place under K-1 rules.

Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee, a Muay Thai world champion, returns to fight under the Yokkao banner since his last appearance at Yokkao Extreme in January 2013, where he picked up a decision victory in a rematch against Frenchman Mickael Piscitello in Italy. He has since won eleven straight bouts, all of which took place under the Thai Fight banner. The 27-year-old remains as one of the most decorated Welterweight stand-up practitioners out of Thailand today.

Yi Long may have the edge in speed, but he will still be considered the underdog heading into this tilt. It’ll be interesting to note how he handles Sudsakorn’s middle and low kicks too, given his unorthodox Kung Fu style.

However, it will not only be Muay Thai against Shaolin Kung Fu in the main event when Yokkao hits Chinese shores. It’ll be a chance for bragging rights as Thailand takes on China in a fiery challenge that will for the first time, pull all stops and determine which is the best discipline in striking combat once and for all.

Promoter Stefania Picelli also had her reasons as to why the event will be taking place in the city of Xinyang in the Henan province. Apparently, it happens to be the parent city of the Shaolin Monastery, where training takes place on a strict regimen every day without recess. The venue wasn’t chosen by chance but instead, for its rich history in martial arts.

Yokkao 9 will include 10 fighters from the famed Yokkao stable including Pakorn Pk MuayThaiGym among others.

The full fight card will be announced soon so be sure to keep it locked to Fight Sport Asia for all updates.
