AFC 9 set with 10 match-ups, watch it LIVE on

Australian Fighting Championship makes its first venture into Albury, New South Wales later today and with the promotion’s home state of Victoria still in the midst of facing Mixed Martial Arts cage ban laws, this will be the AFC’s inaugural caged event as well.

AFC 9 goes down at the North Albury Football Club in Albury, New South Wales. The event will be carried LIVE online for a price of US$16.99 on, beginning 4:30 am EDT.

The running order has a total of 10 bouts, with two title fights in place.

The vacant Welterweight belt will be up for grabs in the main event as KMA Top Team’s Corey Nelson locks horns with Callan Potter. Regarded as one of Australia’s top 170-pounders, Nelson looks to continue his impressive streak under the AFC banner after a small hiccup in his previous appearance. At AFC 5, he defeated Alex Volkanovski with a devastating head kick. He followed that up at AFC 6 by topping Walber De Barros via doctor stoppage, before finishing Rick Alchin with leg kicks at AFC 8. Suffice to say, ‘Major’ has shone in AFC and has been nothing short of remarkable in his quest for the title.

Despite only making one promotional appearance, Potter has racked up a 6-2 record and is yet to go to the judges’ scorecards in his career. He’s on a tear with a five fight win streak that includes four first round finishes.

The co-main event, meanwhile, will see a pair of 135-pounders battling it out for the Bantamweight title.

At AFC 7, fans were treated to a delicious contest between the young up-and-comer Kai Kara-France, and the experienced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Gustavo Falciroli. But on that night, controversy and uncertainty surrounded their tilt, where in the second round, Kara-France collided face first onto a ringside table after falling through the ropes.

The bout was rightly stopped and turned into a no-contest in the aftermath. Now, the two will fight again this time with the 135-lbs title on the line. Falciroli is one the country’s biggest stars with bouts against a who’s who of MMA stars while Legend FC vet Kara-France, has been training with current AFC Lightweight champion Daniel Hooker to fine tune his craft in preparation for this huge event.

Elsewhere on the card, highly touted Nova Uniao prospect Rodolfo Marques finally meets Alex Volkanovski after their initial clash at AFC 8 was cancelled with Volkanovshi suffering an injury, and ‘TUF: Nations’ alumnus Daniel Kelly returns to the AFC flag to take on the always tough and durable, Ben Kelleher.
