Golovkin vs. Geale results: GGG continues winning ways, dismantles Geale in just three rounds

NEW YORK — Madison Square Garden played host to a Middleweight contest between Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Geale on Saturday night.

Bruising 160-pounder Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KO) stepped into the ring against Daniel Geale (30-3, 16 KO), who many thought had the skill set to push the hard-hitting phenom into deep waters.

However, that proved not to be the case and Golovkin needed just three rounds to dismantle his foe, and extend his knockout streak to a blistering seventeen in-a-row, that dates back to November of 2008. This latest win also marked an eleventh straight title defense of Golovkin’s WBA Middleweight strap.

Golovkin, 32, wasted little to know time at all in pursuing Geale, closing the veteran down with excellent footwork and ring intelligence. With Golovkin headhunting and shoe shining the body, Geale looked a little out of his depth in the early goings. The Australian had a small cut above his right eye, though that appeared to have occurred from an accidental clash of heads. As the opening round comes to an end, which actually lasted a full minute longer than it should have. Replays showed Geale tripping on a cameraman’s strap that was hanging over the ropes.

The second round, much like the first picked up with Golovkin pressing right off the bat, eventually landing a grazing shot sending Geale to the canvas. The former titleholder was able to get back to his feet. Golovkin in typical fashion zoned in for the kill, but Geale was able to survive and see a third. As the round ended it was clear the Australian native was overpowered, outclassed and soon to be another scalp on the ‘GGG’ mantle.

Like the previous rounds it was one-way traffic courtesy of Golovkin’s powerful offense. Geale, began to open up a bit more in the third but the aggressiveness and precision of the Kazakhstan dusted his opponent with a hard right, though not before eating a shot of his own. Geale once again tumbled to the canvas. After a glazed look in his eyes, Geale climbed back to his feet. All over the place referee Mike Ortega had seen enough and waved the bout off.

*Post-fight with Max Kellerman, Gennady Golovkin called for a Middleweight title unification match-up with Boxing legend Miguel Cotto.

Official results of the evening:
