Fuel TV Australia Makes Way For Fox Sports

Fuel TV (Fuel) Australia is set to be axed and replaced by additional Fox Sports channels on November 3. Fuel is the current home of UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) content on the Australian Foxtel network. Fuel and Speed TV are making way for sports channels Fox Sports 4 and Fox Sports 5, according to Fox Sports’ press release.

This mirrors the move in the US in August of 2013, when FTV and Speed were dropped for Fox Sports 1 and 2. After a 10 year run on Foxtel, its not all bad news for Australian MMA and extreme sports fans with the content to be redistributed on Fox Sports channels (in High Definition).

Fight Sport Asia contacted Fox Sports, who stated content levels would remain at a similar level, but Fuel TV were unavailable for comment. Current Fuel programming includes UFC Fight Nights, UFC Tonight and The Ultimate Fighter (Season 20). The UFC has a 7 year broadcast deal with FOX in the USA, assuming this is in place until 2018 that ensures exclusive content available to Australian subscribers.

In 2012 Foxtel announced a 2 year deal in place in Australia, but no further details have been forthcoming about the nature of the deal past 2014.
