Philippines URCC promotion returns with ‘TAKEOVER’

Philippines long running MMA promotion URCC (Universal Reality Combat Championship) returns next month, after a brief hiatus in 2014. The October 23 fight card was recently announced and according to it features 2 title fights and the full scale debut of the cage at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay.

URCC founder Alvin Aguilar wants Philippines fighters to be more prepared for international competition, thus the cage will replace the ring at URCC events according to his interview with Anton Tabuena (link below). URCC trialed the cage in August with a 3 fight showcase in Pasay.

Both the featherweight and bantamweight titles will be up for grabs.

Featherweight champ Reydon ‘Red’ Romero (7-5) will face Malaysian ONE FC veteran Jian Kai Chee (4-5). Romero was recently defeated by Japanese journeyman Yojiro Uchimura at Rebel Fighting Championship 2, in August, via first round TKO. Chee will also backup form a first round TKO loss to Amir Khan at ONE FC 20 earlier this month.

A rematch between URCC stalwarts Andrew Benibe (5-7) and Reysaldo ‘Onyok’ Transmonte (5-2) will be contested for the vacant bantamweight strap. Benibe will be looking to return to the winners column after 3 notable defeats to Honorio Banario, Will Chope and in November at URCC 24, where Transmonte secured a split decision victory.
