Shooto 7th Round: Nobita Hits Last Second Submission to Win Title

On Saturday, Shooto closed the curtains on another exciting event at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.  Shooto 7th Round 2014 featured a world title fight, a pacific rim title fight and three Infinity League fights.

“Nobita” Naito was able to finish the fight in the final seconds of the fifth round to wrangle the Shooto flyweight world title away from Shinya Murofushi.  The final seconds were ticking off as Naito was able to take the back and elicit a tap of the former champion.  Nobita has now won all 8 of his professional bouts and his past six by submission.  Shinya Murofushi had his four fight win streak snapped.

The main event had to top the last second dramatics of the pacific rim featherweight title fight.  As the seconds waned in the second round, Yuta Nezu was able to finish Keita Ishibashi with ground and pound.  This was Yuta Nezu’s first defense of his Shooto pacific rim title.

The undefeated Takaki “SOYA” was looking to knockout Masaaki Sugawara, but found himself on the wrong end of a straight right hand that put him away.  This was the 2013 Shooto rookie MVP’s first loss in his professional career.  Sugawara has finished his second consecutive fight by knockout.  Kenichiro Togashi was unable to continue on his fight against Yusei Kawana due to an injury.  Kenta Sakuma was able to stop the favored Fumihiro Kitahara with a right hook that dropped him and follow punches on the ground.
