UFC 180: Mark Hunt to Fight Werdum for Interim Title

Cain Velasquez was scheduled to defend his UFC Heavyweight Title against Fabricio Werdum on November 15th in Mexico.  This venture to Mexico will be the first time the company has promoted a fight in the country.  There was heavy press for this inaugural venture into Mexico, even a show built on promoting the stars and sport in Mexico, Central and South America.  Cain Velasquez has had injury layoffs in the past, most notably a shoulder injury following his first fight with Junior Dos Santos.  Cain Velasquez injured his right knee and had to be pulled from the main event.  In Cain’s place, there will be an interim title fight between the Spanish speaking Werdum and New Zealand’s Mark Hunt.

The “Super Samoan” Mark Hunt will be getting the title shot Junior Dos Santos took away from him at UFC 160 in 2013.  Mark Hunt is coming off of an impressive knockout victory over Roy Nelson just last month in Tokyo, Japan.  Mark Hunt carries a 5-2-1 UFC record into this title bout, including impressive finishes over Nelson, Stefan Struve, Chieck Kongo and Chris Tuchscherer.  The game plan in this fight for both fighters will be apparent.  Mark, the 2001 K1 World Grand Prix Champion, will look to keep this fight on the feet, while his opponent will look to take the fight down.  Fabricio Werdum has improved his striking offense with Kings MMA over the past year, but his advantage in this fight is in the grappling department.  Fabricio Werdum is a BJJ black belt and one of the best MMA grapplers in the history of the sport, maybe the best.  Fabricio Werdum is 18-5-1 in MMA and currently on a 4-fight winning streak.

Mexico here I come thanks god and ufc for opportunity.
