Complete fight card announced for AFC 11, Davenport co-main dropped due to injury

Australian Fighting Championship are looking to close out 2014 with 9 fights on November 22 in Melbourne. AFC 11 is headlined by Daniel Way vs Maui Tuigamala and in breaking news the co-main event between Peter Davenport and Alex Anthony has been dropped from the card.

Victorian Daniel “Grasshopper” Way (4-5) has made a successful transition from Muay Thai to MMA and is coming of an entertaining third round Dr’s stoppage victory over Nitro MMA and K-Oz Bragging Rights light-heavyweight champion John Muir at AFC 10, in a middleweight bout.

At AFC 9, elite Australian middleweight Steven Kennedy defeated Way via unanimous decision in a catchweight fight at 86 kgs. Kennedy was able to survive the first round after Way blasted him with elbows and managed to get out of trouble with takedowns and top control to secure the next 2 rounds in a see-sawing affair.

Way will face another Nitro MMA alum Maui Tuigamale (4-0), who is fresh off a victory over Shane Mitchell, via first round submission, at Nitro MMA 12 on October 14th, 2014. Tuigamala is undefeated in his professional MMA career to date.

Peter Davenport vs Alex Anthony was set to co-headline but injury has forced the fight to be dropped from the card. Davenport announced this on Facebook that Anthony had suffered a back injury and as no suitable replacement could be found, he would wait to return in 2015.

For the first time since 2011 AFC will not feature a title fight, with many of their championship fighters featured at UFC Fight Night 55, its time for the next breed of Australian champions to step up. AFC 11 is set for November 22, Melbourne Pavillion, Melbourne.

  1. Daniel Way forced out of AFC 11 main event, replaced by Zein Saliba | FSA - FightSport Asia - November 13, 2014

[…] The complete fight card has undergone one or two revisions and the forced removal of Daniel Way has opened the way for Sydney’s Zein Saliba (4-0) to enter the main event. Saliba will return to competition for the first time since his stay in the TUF Nations AUS vs CAN house, where he was defeated by eventual middleweight winner Elais Theodorou. The CFC and AFC fighter is offically undeafeted and holds a notable victory over UFC and fellow TUF Nations alum Vik Grujic at AFC 4.
