MIMMA Grand Finals: Chope and Striegl Win, Season 2 Results

The Season 2 finale for the Malaysian Invansion promotion was held this past Saturday, October 25th.  The fight card featured 7 Amateur MMA Championship fights contested from heavyweight to flyweight.  The fight card was headlined by a grudge match between Americans living in Asia, Will “The Kill” Chope and Matthew Pellino.  You can watch the replay of the event here.

Both men came out exchanging in the beginning, Matthew Pellino was able to hit a takedown just 30 seconds in.  Will Chope worked from his guard, actively looking for the finish.  The men were stood back up and Pellino went for the takedown almost immediately.  Will immediately locked on the kimura on Pellino’s left arm.  Chope worked furiously for the finish, but Pellino was able to defend, just straightening his arm enough to defend the submission.  The second round started with Chope being aggressive and another takedown from Pellino.  Chope looked to lock on the triangle, brilliantly locking up the submission after throwing an elbow.  The tap came in seconds, Chope getting his second win in a row outside of the UFC.

In the co-main event, the Philippine’s Mark “Mugen” Striegl fought New Zealand’s Kaiwhare Kara-France.  Kicks exchanged in the opening round, but Striegl pushed for the takedown.  Striegl was able to get Kai against the cage and work to his back.  Striegl was all over Kara-France, looking to land knees and take the back.  Striegl was able to get the fight down and locked in both hooks.  Striegl went for the rear naked choke, but Kai defended well, fighting the hands of Striegl.  Mugen kept pushing for the submission, finally finishing the choke just over two minutes into the contest.  Striegl made a successful return after more than a year off since his last fight, a submission loss at PXC 39.
