UFC Fight Night 55: Third times a charm, Richie Vaculik to meet Louis Smolka

Richie ‘Vas’ Vaculik (surfing ‘The Right’ courtesy of stabmag.com) has had a rotating roster of match-ups for the November 8 card. He will now face young gun Louis ‘Da Last Samurai’ Smolka in a flyweight battle on the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 55, in Sydney, according to MMA MAD.

Initially without a match-up, Vas was rumoured to be fighting Ray Borg, until officially the UFC announced Irishman Neil Seery would compete in his stead. Less than 3 weeks out Seery has revealed he has broken a rib, sparring with a professional boxer and will be unable to make the trip to Australia. Bad news for Irish fans in Australia, however 23 year old Hawaiian Louis Smolka will step up at late notice.

Smolka (7-1) is the former PXC (Pacific Xtreme Championship) flyweight champion who signed by the UFC in late 2013 and made a successful debut against Turk Alp Ozkilic at UFC Fight Night 35.  He went on the meet Chris Cariaso at UFC Fight Night 40 and lost via split decision, his first professional loss. Carioso then unsuccessfully challenged UFC flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson at UFC 178.

Richie Vas has riden some of Hawaii’s biggest waves, but there is no doubt he will have his hands full on November 8 at Allphones Arena.
