Yoshiyuki Yoshida released by Titan FC after main event cancelled

Shooto and UFC veteran Yoshiyuki Yoshida has been released by Titan FC after his opponent Mike Ricci missed weight and Yoshida eventually declined to fight. Jeff Aronson details his decision in comments made to The MMA Report (video below).

Yoshida was scheduled to fight Canadian Mike Ricci for the lightweight belt at Titan FC 31, but Ricci missed weight by 2 pounds and a 157lbs catchweight fight was agreed to by Yoshida. Arsonson details the time line for events

“He weighed in. Yoshida weighed in. They agreed to a contracted fight, catchweight. Yoshida signed. Mike Ricci signed. Everything was 100% no issue.”

Ricci was to forfiet 20% of his purse and the non-title bout was to main event the card, Aronson goes on to detail his frustration with with the Japanese star

“This morning I wake up, I get a call – Yoshida doesn’t feel like fighting. ‘Yoshida doesn’t feel like fighting.’ So I immediately get dressed, run to Yoshida’s room. We have a conversation with Yoshida’s management, with Yoshida himself… he does not want to fight Mike Ricci.”

Yoshida is no stranger to fighting at a catchweight, having fought Anthony Johnson at 176lbs, after ‘Rumble’ missed weight at UFC 104.

In the results from Titan FC 31 Rebel FC’s Miguel Torres suffered a brutal KO defeat to Desmond Green.
