AFC 11 results: Zein Saliba submits Maui Tuigamala

TUF Nations alum Zein Saliba has returned to action convincingly with a submission victory over Maui Tuigamala at AFC 11. Grandmaster Relson Gracie (pictured with Jessy Rose Clark) was in attendance, so it seemed a fitting end to an entertaining night of fights in Melbourne, Australia.

The main event was hotly contested in the clinch and Saliba secured the takedown midway in the first round, but not before both men landed outside of the ropes on the ringside table. A TP Gym product, Saliba’s strengths were on the mat as he controlled the slightly younger Tuigamala from the Southside MMA fighters half guard.

The second round again saw Saliba take Tuigamala down, slamming him close to the edge of the ropes and the action was reset in the middle of the ring. Tuigamala attempted to free himself through multiple grappling exchanges before finally exposing his head and arm. Saliba did not hesitate to lock in the choke, rendering Tuigamala unconcious within seconds of applying the head and arm triangle from side control.

Both fighters entered in ring 4-0 and Zein improves his professional record to 5-0 that includes a victory over UFC fighter Vik Grujic at AFC 4.

In the co-main event 19 year old Kitt Campbell showed why he is considered a hot prospect in Australian MMA with a 46 second stoppage of Chris Birch. Both men landed, but it was a right hand that dropped Birch to the ground and after attempting to finish with hammer fists Kitt eventually locked in the RNC forcing Birch to tap.

After Jessy Rose Clark and Lana Kate failed to settle differences in the ring as scheduled the lone female bout saw Stevie Kelly defeat Alex Muir by decision in an entertaining fight. Stevie Kelly was able to take Muir down on multiple occasions during a see-sawing battle.
