M-1 made a successful foray into China, becoming the first of the larger worldwide promotions to hold an event in mainland China.  The MasterCard Center in Beijing, China played host to M-1 Challenge 53: Battle in the Celestial Empire.  The M-1 Heavyweight title was on the line as undefeated Polish fight, Marcin Tybura (11-0) fought undefeated Estonian fighter, Dennis Smoldarev (9-0).  Marcin Tybura defended his title with a rear naked choke submission in the first round.  The submission came quick as Marcin tightened up the choke and forced the tap from Smoldarev, handing the Estonian fighter his first defeat.

In a featherweight superfight, undefeated Muay Thai fighter Pavel Vitruk (12-0) fought BJJ Black Belt Rafael Miranda (9-5).  Rafael Miranda was able to land a right hand after a combination, but that would be his biggest offense in the fight.  Pavel Vitruk landed a beautiful left hook, right hand combination that sent the Brazilian crashing to the mat.  Pavel put Rafael to sleep with a clubbing right hand and follow up punches.  A knockout finish just under two minutes into the first round.  Vitruk remains a prospect to watch at just 23-years-old.

Russia’s Sergei Kharitonov (22-5) was able to get the third round stoppage win over ATT’s Kenny Garner (14-8).  Kharitonov was hurt in the first round, but survived to bust up Kenny’s left eye.  The doctor stopped the contest two minutes into the third round.  This was the fourth finish in a row for Kharitonov.  Poland’s Damien Grabowski (20-2) is looking to get back into the title picture at Heavyweight with a third round choke submission of Latvia’s Konstantin Gluhov (28-15).
