ROAD FC 014 update: Featherweight Tournament final set for February 9

Hot off the heels from its latest ‘ROAD FC – Korea’ initiative, South Korean outfit ROAD Fighting Championship hasn’t stopped pleasing fans worldwide.

In fact, by all accounts, the promotion has perhaps just gotten started for the calendar year.

The latest blockbuster announcement from ROAD FC sees the highly touted Bae Yong Kwon (9-3) locking horns with Choi Mu Gyeom (3-3), in a profoundly anticipated 145-lbs tournament final match-up that’s set for ROAD FC 014, the fourteenth installment of the organization’s numbered series.

Officials confirmed the match-up with Fight Sport Asia.

ROAD FC 014 takes place February 9 at the Seoul Olympic Hall in Seoul, South Korea. As with previous events, the main card stream LIVE online at http://www.ustream.tv/roadfc for a price of USD $9.99.

The promotion launched its inaugural Featherweight tourney at ROAD FC 012, slating the likes of former UFC vet Michihiro Omigawa to the opening brackets.

Kwon, a Team Posse fighter, dispatched Omigawa in a three-round affair before booking his ticket in the finals by brutally finishing Kosuke Umeda via a knee to the body in the semis. A popular face among Asian MMA faithfuls, Kwon owns victories over former ONE FC champ Honorio Banario and current UFC staple Kyung Ho Kang. The 32-year-old is a well-rounded fighter who has shown his willingness to adapt to his opponents’ styles in order to beat them. He’s 5-1 in his past six outings.

Gyeom, meanwhile, was given a spot in the final after his scheduled match-up with Kil Young Bok was scrapped, with Bok failing to make weight for their encounter at ROAD FC 013. Despite the underdog status against Kwon, the 24-year-old has made a name for himself fighting on foreign soil, garnering notable match-ups against J.J Ambrose and Taichi Nakajima among others. He’ll be hoping to use that experience to his advantage on fight night.

Both fighters will be vying for the honor of being ROAD FC’s inaugural 145-lbs title holder.

Be sure to keep it locked to Fight Sport Asia for all the latest in ROAD FC 014.
